Access and permissions
Solution No. 700
If you are already an administrator on your Method account, you should already have the permissions you need to access the import/export tool. If you aren’t, you will need your administrator to grant you specific permissions so you can use the tool: specifically, you’ll need API (application programming interface) access, Table access, and be able to access the Customize tab.
Method’s API allows Method to interact with programs made by other companies (for example, Microsoft Excel). It acts as a “bridge” between the two programs, allowing information to be passed back and forth as it is in an import or export. A user who wants to make use of that bridge needs API access. Here’s how to give it to them.
- Navigate to Customize > Users.
- Choose the user you want to grant access to, and click Edit...
- Move forward to Step 8 and click This user is allowed to connect to Method API.
- Click Finish to save your changes.
Table access[top]
Most users are only allowed access to certain tables in Method, but in order to import information into an existing table (or to export information from an existing table) a user must have access to that table. Here’s how to give it to them.
- Navigate to Customize > Users.
- Choose the user you want to grant access to, and click Edit...
- Move forward to Step 8. From here, you may either:
- Allow the user access to all existing tables, or
- Allow the user access to specific tablesby choosing them from the dropdown.
Method recommends you allow the user access to all existing tables, to save you the trouble of manually choosing tables from the list.
- Click Finish to save your changes.
Customize tab access[top]
The import/export tool is found in the Integration Tools tab link, and as such can only be accessed through the Customize tab. If a user doesn’t have access to that tab, here’s how to give it to them.
- Navigate to Customize > Tab Groups.
- Choose the tab group where your Customize tab is located (usually CRM) and click Edit…
- You will see a list of all your Method users. To give a user access to the tab group, ensure the checkbox next to their name is checked off.
- Click Finish to save your changes.
Once you have enabled these permissions, your user (or users) will be able to access the import/export tool by doing the following:
- Navigate to Customize > Integration Tools
- Click Go to Import/Export.
This will take you to step 1 of the Import/Export menu. You can learn how to import by clicking here or how to export by clicking here.
If this is your first time importing and/or exporting to or from Method, we recommend you follow the steps very carefully to ensure you don’t make mistakes with your data.
