Overview
A case origin denotes where the case originated, as the name suggests. Usually, a case will be initiated as a result of a phone call, an email, or through some other form of web-based interaction, which is why those three options are included as standard in Method CRM. But depending on the kind of business you run, there could be other places cases might originate (for example, in a physical "how did we do" comment box, or from the feedback of canvassers). Regardless where your cases originate, Method CRM is set up to allow you to create and edit your own origin types. This section will show you how to create a new origin, edit an existing origin, and will provide a breakdown of the screen to explain each area in detail. Here we go!

How to create a new case origin
- From Method CRM, go to Cases > New case.
- Beside the Origin drop down menu, click the ellipses button (...) or click on the drop down menu and choose . Either of these options will generate the New/Edit Case Origins screen.
- Choose a name for your new case origin. It should reflect the kind of origin you wish to denote (e.g. Comment Box or Canvasser Feedback).
- Click Save to save the new origin type. Once you refresh the screen, it will appear in the Existing case origins grid below, as well as in the Origin drop down menu on the New and Edit case screens. Clicking Save & New will save the changes and clear the field. Clicking Save & Close will save the changes and return you to the New case screen.

How to edit an existing case origin
- Follow steps 1 and 2 from above.
- In the Existing Case Origins grid, locate the origin you wish to edit and click Select. This will populate the field above with the information associated with this origin.
- From here, you can change the name of the origin (which is the only field associated with origins).
- Click Save to save the changes to the origin type. Once you refresh the screen, the changes will be reflected in the Existing case origins grid, as well as in the drop down menus. The buttons function the same as above.

New/edit case origin
Let's take a look at the requisite field required to either create a new case origin or edit an existing one. Bear in mind that editing just requires you to change the information you want to change - as long as the field with the red asterisk next to them is filled out, Method will save the record!
- Case origin: This is the only field required for Method to save your case origin record - and the only field on this screen! As mentioned above, it is simply a writable field used to give your case origin a name, or to edit the existing name (which will appear here if you have selected a case origin from the grid below).

Existing case origins
Of course, this grid functions the same way as other grids in Method (see our article on Grid functionality for more information). Clicking Select next to the case origin you want to edit will populate the case origin field above. Since there is only one field on this screen, you can only order or search the grid using that criterion.

Buttons
As usual, you will find some familiar buttons at the bottom of this screen that offer you other options to be had. They are as follows:
- More actions: This button will allow you to Clear / New which will clear the field in preparation for a new case origin, or Delete case origin, which can't be undone.
- Save: This will save the changes.
- Save & New: This will save the changes and clear the field.
- Save & Close: This will save the changes and close the screen, returning you to the New case screen.
- Cancel/Close: This will close the screen without saving changes.
