Welcome to the Customers guide! Here we'll be conducting a comprehensive breakdown of everything you can do in your Customers tab (which you can find in the CRM tab group; see our documentation on tabs and tab groups for more information). But first, let's talk about what we mean when we talk about a Customer in Method CRM.
What is a customer?
A customer is the person or company that purchases or otherwise receives the goods and/or services your company offers. Customers can be anything from an individual consumer all the way up to a multi-national corporation, depending on the goods and services your company offers. But in Method terms, a customer is another kind of entry in your CRM that is associated with a record. Customers can be found in the Existing customer and contacts list, and typically have all kinds of information associated with them: everything from addresses and phone numbers to billing information and past transactions.
Customers are also typically associated with Contacts, which refer to the individual who represents the customer. Sometimes the customer and the contact are one and the same, and sometimes they're not: the contact Bob Crenshaw might be an independent contractor (which means he's also the customer), or he might be the general manager of a Target in Dallas (which means he represents the customer Target Dallas). Both of these types can be found in the Existing customer and contacts list within the Customer tab. Contacts have similar information associated with them.
Why do we keep track?
No matter how big or small your company is, you just don't have a company if you don't have customers! In fact, that's what the "C" in CRM stands for. The primary purpose of Method is to help you keep track of each and every one of your customers and every business transaction associated with them – from the first preliminary phone call, to meetings, to product delivery and invoicing, to transaction records. This fits into our trail of breadcrumbs philosophy that states the best-run businesses are those with the most comprehensive business records. Simply put, customers are the lifeblood of your business, and keeping tabs on every element of your interaction with them will guarantee that you're providing the best service possible, making you the best at what you do!
As with everything else in our package, Method CRM also lets you fully customize your Customers tab (you can find more information about that by contacting one of our Business Solutions Specialists), but even out of the box, you have a variety of options available to you that will let you keep track of all your customers and contacts, and all actions associated with them in Method!
